Vascular Malformations of the Brain Booklet 

The Brain and Spine Foundation released a booklet entitled 'Vascular Malformations of the Brain'; the booklet offers a comprehensive guide to malformations of the brain. It also has an excellent glossary of terms and details of a number of support networks that may be able to help you in the UK. To download a copy of the booklet, click on the link below and then once you arrive at the Brain and Spine Homepage click on ‘information’ where you will see a link to 'current titles'. The booklet is the last on the list and can either be downloaded direct from the site or sent to you by post; however there is a small charge of £4 for those wishing to have a copy posted.

The Scottish Intracranial Vascular Malformation Study 

The Scottish Intracranial Vascular Malformation Study is an ongoing programme running throughout Scotland. Anyone who thinks they may be eligible to participate in the study can contact SIVMS @ sivms@skull.dcn.ed.ac.uk. The website has an excellent links directory and whether you want to participate or not, it’s really worth a visit.

Aneurysm & AM Support West Georgia

The Aneurysm & AVM Support site has been developed by Bill Maples and hosted by the University of West Georgia of West Georgia; it is informative and provides factual information concerning both conditions. The site also offers the opportunity to read other AVM patients experiences and although the majority of the stories are from the US there are some UK members within the group.

The National Institute for Clinical Excellence 

CG20 - NICE guidelines. The epilepsies:  The diagnosis and management of the epilepsies in adults and children in primary and secondary care.

 

The NICE produces three kinds of guidance:

  • Technology appraisals - guidance on the use of new and existing medicines and treatments within the NHS in England and Wales.
  • Clinical guidelines - guidance on the appropriate treatment and care of people with specific diseases and conditions within the NHS in England and Wales.
  • Interventional procedures - guidance on whether interventional procedures used for diagnosis or treatment are safe enough and work well enough for routine use in England, Wales and Scotland.
