Chrisella Ann Foote 1958 – 2006

Sponsored walk along Hadrian’s Wall for AVM Support in memory of Chrisella.

Start Date:                 1st July 06.

Completion Date:       7th July 06.

Walk Length:             84 miles.

People taking part:    Barry White and Paul       Tighe

Back-up Support:       Anthony and Susan White,

On 22nd March 06 my dearly beloved sister Chrisella passed away having suffered a massive bleed the day before.

After the funeral my eldest son, Barry, suggested that he wanted to do something to help AVM Support UK in raising money for the group in the memory of his auntie Chrisella.  He suggested that he would like to complete the walk along Hadrian’s Wall, and asked me to do some research on the walk.

I searched the internet for the relevant information on the above walk.  I sent off for an information pack which included a passport which needs to be stamped at various checkpoints along the way.    Barry stated that he would like to complete this walk with his life-long friend Paul Tighe.  He also asked me to join him as he knew that I always wanted to do this particular walk.  I stated that this would not be advisable at this particular moment, but I would be willing to organise, and to offer back-up as and when needed.

I duly spoke to James to inform him what Barry and Paul wanted to do, to raise funds for the AVM Support group.  He was absolutely thrilled that they are doing this in the memory of Chrisella.  I contacted Jan Harrington at AVM Support to see if it was okay, and to enquire about sponsor forms, AVM leaflets etc.  I duly added information to the sponsor forms and printed these out.  The response that we have had is very encouraging.  The names are mounting up.

The information pack arrived and we duly started to make plans etc.  Barry and Paul have been busy too. They have booked the time off work, gathering equipment that they will need, purchased various maps and researched the route for camp sites and overnight hostels, organised the walking distances per day (possibly 12 miles) and where to replenish there supplies etc.   I have arranged that I will be meeting Barry and Paul at the halfway stage at Haltwhistle on Tuesday 4th July with fresh supplies if alls going well at that stage.  So as you can see, we have been very busy organising the walk.  It’s a tough one for the boys, but I have every confidence in them both to make this a success.

I have included some photos of the lads and I will give updates to Jan at the close of each day when the walk is in progress.  May I say that we are pleased to be supporting the AVM Support Group, and my sincere thanks goes to Jan for giving us the help and permission to use the group in the above sponsored walk.

We hope to raise quite a large amount of money for AVM Support.

DAY 1

Well what a day for Paul & Barry. They arrived at Walls end on 1st July at approx 5am. They set off at 6am heading for Harlow Hill which is approximately 19 miles.

I received a call from Barry at 11:30am stating that Paul's leg is playing him up. A bad case of cramp possibly. He took pain killers to help.

They called into a Post Office to leave some items from the ruck sack to remove some weight.
The pace was very good even though Paul was in pain.

Paul phoned at 7pm to say that they are in sight of Harlow Hill and would be camping the night in a corner of the corn field.

He stated that the leg is sore but he would rest it tonight and see how it is in the morning.
He took more pain killers.

We received a call from Barry at 9pm to say that all was well and that the rest was okay for Pauls leg. Tea was on & the kettle boiling.

I think that they done exceptionally well on the first day with Paul suffering with his leg.
Today (Sunday) they are heading for Chollerford.

I received a call from Barry this morning at 6:30am to state that they have had a good night's rest and that Paul's leg is feeling better. They have just set off to Chollerford.

Well done to both of them.
